SNOM
4S SIP Proxy and Registrar The 4S stands for SIP Small to medium enterprise
Soft Switch. It is software that supports calling and group conferencing.
The 4S SIP Proxy component performs a routing function, ensuring that
call requests are sent to the appropriate location for the targeted
user. The Proxy also enforces policy (for example, making sure a user
is allowed to make a call). A proxy interprets, and, if necessary,
rewrites specific parts of a request message before forwarding it.
The 4S Registrar maintains and updates address information for a community
of users. Session users may log in to a SIP Registrar when they
initiate the Session application. The Registrar simplifies calling
using an addressing scheme similar to emaile.g. john.smith@abc.co.com,
rather than requiring specific IP addressing. It is ideal for network
environments that use DHCP addressing to allocate new IP addresses
to computers each time they log in.
The snom 4S server is designed for small to medium enterprise
deployments and runs on both Windows and Linux.
