A major southeastern University School of Medicine
wanted to establish a system for effective communication and collaboration
between their consulting doctors at the University and affiliated
rural clinics. The goal was to improve healthcare in the state by
providing high-risk patients in geographically isolated areas with
access to expert consultations where they had been previously unavailable.
To address these needs, Wave Three introduced the University to
its Session communication software. Session is a unique
solution in the telemedicine and medical research space, providing
doctors and other practitioners with exceptionally high quality
real-time conferencing and imaging applications. Session provides
unmatched flexibility supporting Voice over IP, Video over IP, application
sharing, and media sharing in a single application. Moreover, Session
provides this utility without special purpose equipment or significant
costs.
The University uses Session software to provide expert consultation
for high-risk pregnancies in rural areas throughout the southeastern
United States. High quality, real time audio and video allow OB/GYN's
to interview the patient and interact with nurse practitioners in
remote locations. Real-time video capabilities are also used to
transit diagnostic information such as live ultrasounds. Session's
application sharing tool, ShareApp lets University doctors
directly update patient records located at the patient treatment
site. Session's whiteboard tool, MediaSpace, facilitates
patient education through the sharing of images, recorded video
and other media that help patients visualize and better understand
their own medical situations.
