Session Conference
Server Software
The Session Conference Server delivers
group conferencing on a server-based platform. The software supports
group conferencing for voice, video, data, or all three simultaneously,
all running in software on standard servers.
The Conference Server architecture is a flexible, SIP-based architecture
for group communication. While all the conferencing server modules
may be run on the same physical server, they may also be distributed
as separate modules throughout the network to maximize flexibility,
scalability and manageability. The initial release of the Session
Conference Server operates on Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Server,
with support for other platforms to follow.
The different conferencing and communication software modules developed
for the Session SCS architecture include:
Conference Management Services
The Conference Management Services module
schedules and manages conferences. It provides a web-based
user interface for setting up group conferences. It also provides
tools for system administrators to manage bandwidth utilization
and system capacity. Users connect to the Conference Management
Services module via HTTP using a web browser.
Conference Control Services
Conference signaling and setup is delivered
by the Session Conference Control Services. It communicates
information regarding scheduled conferences using eXtensible Mark-up
Language (XML). XML is also used as the communication protocol between
the Conference Control Services and the Session Conference
Multimedia Services.
Conference Multimedia Services
Session Conference Multimedia
Services are responsible for data replication and local propagation
as they move data and media through the network. The Real-time Transport
Protocol (RTP) delivers live media to multiple Session users
at the same time.
